More information
on the museum's celebration.
At our community meeting on March 13th there was unanimity amongst the attendees
that the Brooklyn Museum must be made to understand that it is not acceptable
to celebrate Bruce Ratner. So...
Thursday, April 3. 6:30 - 8:30pm
Protest the Brooklyn Museum's Gala Celebration of Bruce Ratner...
An Affront to Brooklyn's Communities
In the Brooklyn Museum's words, Bruce Ratner will be commended for his "generous
support of various activities of the Brooklyn Museum."
But the Museum's $1,000-a-plate Annual Brooklyn Ball, in celebrating Bruce Ratner,
conveniently ignores Ratner's divisive and abusive campaign to promote his Atlantic
Yards proposal, and the disastrous effect it would have on Brooklyn's neighborhoods.
Join your friends, neighbors and the Brooklyn community to protest the Museum's
insensitivity to all those whose lives have been, and would be, turned upside
down by Ratner's Atlantic Yards – a project that has become the national
posterchild for bad development.
We don't question the Museum's right to raise funds to support itself. We don't
even question the Museum's accepting donations from Bruce Ratner. What we do
take issue with is honoring and celebrating Bruce Ratner in light of what he
has done and proposes to do to Brooklyn's communities.
When: Thursday, April 3. Starting at 6:30pm
Where: Brooklyn Museum Plaza, Eastern Parkway. 2/3 Subway.
[Map]
Bring: Your signs and friends.
Dress: Formal (if you wish.)

the Museum and "The Brooklyn Ball." And let's not forget that it was
the Brooklyn
Museum that hosted the Forest City Ratner/Barclays Bank gala press event announcing
the $400 million arena naming rights deal.
