About DDDB
Our coalition consists of 21 community organizations and
there are 51 community organizations formally
aligned in opposition to the Ratner plan.
DDDB is a volunteer-run organization. We have over 5,000
subscribers to our email newsletter, and 7,000 petition
signers. Over 800 volunteers have registered with DDDB
to form our various teams, task-forces and committees
and we have over 150 block captains. We have a 20 person
volunteer legal team of local lawyers supplementing our
retained attorneys.
We are funded entirely by individual donations from the community at large
and through various fundraising events we and supporters have organized.
We have the financial support of well over 3,500 individual
donors.

One Reason Why Atlantic Yards is Called a Sweetheart Deal
Remember the "bidding process" over the Vanderbilt Rail Yards, the 8-acre MTA/LIRR
property which comprises part of the Atlantic Yards footprint? Remember how the
MTA appraised the Yards at $214.5 million back in 2005? Remember how Ratner bid
$50 million and Extell Development Company
bid $150 million? Remember how the MTA forced Ratner to up his bid to $100
million and then awarded him the winning bid?
Well, today Crain's reports that at least three of the bidders on the
Hudson Yards on Manhattan's West Side offered "about $1 billion."
Now, one might ask if Hudson Yards is ten times the size of Vanderbilt Yards.
> Hudson Yards is 26.1 acres.
> Vanderbilt Yards is 8.5 acres.
That's about 3 times the size. Yet, apparently the Hudson Yards bids are ten times
Ratner's Vanderbilt Yards bid.
That's one reason they call Atlantic Yards a sweetheart deal.

Sources said at least three of the five bids each offered about $1 billion
to purchase the site. The MTA has said it hopes to select a developer
by the end of March...
